Summer Time Tarpon.

Report Date: July 21, 2005

Well if you live anywhere south of the Arctic circle, I'm sure you've been sweatin'. I can't remember the last time it's been this hot for so many consecutive days. I think were going on four weeks now with heat indexes in the triple digits. With the excessive heat has come very little wind which has made for some good days of fishing.

We have still managed to produce some fish and have been focusing primarily on Tarpon, Spanish, and Blues. The light winds have provided some good days to run out front and give chase to some rather large schools of feeding spanish and blues. Iron Mike's and Gotchas have proven to be winners along with the old faithful Clark spoon.

On the Tarpon front, we've seen the fish start to spread out through out the rivers and sound making them a little harder to find in any good numbers. We've gotten a few fish over 100 pounds, but the majority seem to be right around 60-80lbs. Not bad by any means.

Pictured here with the grin that couldn't be removed with a jack hammer is my buddy Monty with his first Poon, probably about 120LBS. He did an outstanding job on his end as the fish followed suit with several incredible jumping episodes.

A few reports from some folks who have been landing some big bull Reds out in the sound and around the bridge means they are heading this way. With in the next few weeks we should see the smaller males come in search of spawning areas only to be followed by the big females as the water temp drops. this is some crazy action with really big reds and shouldn't be missed.
Give us a call and get your peice of the action!
See ya soon.
