More Redfish action and the arrival of Cobia
Report Date: April 25, 2005
Well for the last couple of days here in the Lowcountry we have been doing a number of different types of fishing, and all have been really productive. For starters we got on a really hot Weakfish(Summer Trout) spawn out on the live bottom areas. Most of the fish were averaging 16" and we usually got tired of catching them. In addition to the Trout were some nice catches of Sheepsheads and Black Sea Bass similar to the one being held by Mr. Christopher Parsons. This was the best casting 11 year old I have ever had on the boat! He can go cast for cast with the best of them.
The inshore Redfish action has been typical for this time of year. Some days you get them to bite, some days they don't. Pictured here is Mr Baggett and Mr Brown of Callawasie with two nice Reds. The one on the right went 10.5lbs and the one on the left was 5.0 lbs. Most fish are still being cought on live and cut bait. Once the water temps gets up and stays above seventy degrees we should see some better action with the Reds and Trout.
The Cobia season got off to a pretty good start this year with this 30lber cought on our first trip of the year. Jack and Dave Smith combined effort to bring this fish boatside for some photos. This is also the first time i can remember ever having to wear long pants and a jacket Cobia fishing. At the start of the week the temps dropped down into the upper thirties at night and has really lowered the water temps. Forcasts for the end of the week have the temps back into the eighties which should get us back on track.
Stay tuned for some more great Cobia action in the Days to come!
Tight Lines,
Capt Josh
