The Reds are Back

Report Date: September 6, 2005

Well it didn't take much to get things really cooking down here in the Lowcountry. Last week we had a weak cold front come through the area and it seemed to be all that was need to trigger the inshore bite. After a pretty slow summer on the Reds and Trout, things have really started to pick up. We are getting some really good bites bait fishing on the inshore drops, but the majority of the fish have been small, all around 15". For what they lack in size, they are definately making up for in numbers. One particular trip that comes to mind was last week with Mr. Mathew Heubick. We started the day with a few Reds and some ladyfish and another nice 8 lb fish. Moved to another spot and proceeded to catch 50+ Reds all in the 16" range. Matt was fishing with live shrimp and I was using the Gulp shrimp. I think I caught 18 fish on 18 cast but it might of been only 17. Oh yea keep in mind Mathew was only 11!

Here are Mike and Mell Plowucha with a couple of nice slot size Reds we pulled out the grass, a few of them were a little more fortunate and were reluctant to come all the way to the boat.

On a different note, the big guys are starting to creep in. We have laid into a few big fish at the structure and even more in the sound.

Here is Mike, Paul, and Darian of Hephzibah Ga (Augusta if your not from around here) with a fine catch of big Reds. In addition to these guys we also jumped a poon and lost a 30lb Cobia at the boat on top of 15-20 Black Sea Bass and countless big Black Tips.

Now that we've got some cooler weather headed this way and the days are getting shorter, things will progressively get better. The big bulls will move in by the droves in the weeks to come and will provide plenty of rod bendin' action for those who pursue. It would be my recommendation to take part in it if you can otherwise you'll be missing out.
Give me a call to reserve your peice of the action, it's go time!
