Winter in the Lowcountry

Report Date: January 3, 2006

Well I hope everybody had a good Holiday season and you've got a positive outlook for the coming year. The action down here has been very consistant and we have been blessed with some good weather patterns.

On the Redfish front, we are full bore into the winter pattern. Once the water dropped in to the fifties, these Reds crowded up like teenagers at a Britney Spears concert. The water has stayed gin clear and is providing excellant sight fishing opportunities. I've been trying to do as much low-water fishing as possible because these fish have been most active once out of the grass. The schools primarily consist of 6-8lbers but a few places are holding some bigger fish and there are plenty of slot sized guys to go around.

On the Trout front, things are about the same. The most consistant action has been with the small fish in the 12-13' range, but when you find them they are thick as mollases. The only problem is finding any that will keep with consistency. Most fish have been in the creeks and cought on shrimp and Grubs.

The rest of the winter looks good from what I can tell. As long as these weather patterns hold and the wind only blows on high tides we'll be in great shape. Give me a call and come get your piece of the action.
