Cobia............

Report Date: May 5, 2006

It's definitely that time of year again and it couldn't have come a day earlier. After a somewhat "tough" spring Redfish bite, I was ecstatic to say the least to drown some baits for the elusive Brownie.

The first fish of the year was caught on or around the 16th of April this year depending on who you asked so I felt obligated to follow that up with two of my own on the 17th. Since then we have been pretty consistent and all the while quite successful. Strangely enough we have been catching allot of small fish in the river which isn't bad but they just don't put on the show that the bigger ones do. Greenies and squid have been the ticket for me on the bottom fish and of course nobody is passing up and eel thrown on the surface either.

We have had several days now of good sight fishing conditions and they have all produced really good catches and sightings in the double digits every time. My biggest fish so far is #65lbs but I'm hoping that will not last as the bigger fish should be moving in in the next few weeks. Well I'm hoping we will get some stable weather patterns for the next few weeks so that we can take advantage of the good sight fishing conditions. If you are so lucky as to get a slick day on the river for your Cobia trip would like to make one suggestion.....DOAN's!!
