Spring Cobia Report

Report Date: January 1, 2005

So far it's been pretty strange if you ask me. Lot's, and I mean lots of small fish, averaging about 15lbs and very few females. The fish were here on time but the water temp stayed pretty low for the month of May and I don't know if that's what has kept all of the big fish from coming in yet or if maybe they just bypassed us altogether. Hopefully not.Either way I'm going to keep telling myself that the females are going to show up once the water temp gets up.
In the mean time we are having some pretty good days with the Reds and trout inshore and starting to find some good schools of Spanish and Blues pretty close to the beach. They make for some good sport on light tackle.
In the next month, we should be changing gears and getting ready for some Tarpon action. The rumors are already flying about some free jumping fish off the beach but none have come from any reliable sources. I'm planning on getting after them in about two weeks depending on the water temp.
