Winter Reds

Report Date: January 10, 2007

Happy New Year to everyone! Well the calender says it 's January but the you sure wouldn't know it from the temperature. Latly we've had temps most days in the mid seventies and this has really truned the fish on. The water temps have been very moderate, hovering around the 57 degree mark, which is just perfect for flats fishing.

For the most part I have been fishing the flats for Reds and doing a little Trout fishing on the side when the tides are right. The fish are definately in their winter patterns and holding tightly in schools which makes for the best sight fishing conditions. Right now the most effective approach has been very slow retrieves with Gulps on the bottom in the shrimp patterns and the crabs.

This should be the norm for the next couple of months as the water stays cool and clear. This is the time to be fishing for Reds on the flats so come get your part of the action!
