Hey! More Cobia Action
Report Date: May 20, 2005
Last week faired pretty well. The weather has been incredible and we have been sight fishing exclusively for the past two weeks now and and really putting a hurtin' on the fish. We had some really good tides last week and were seeing allot of fish on the surface. Most days we spotted 10-15 fish and got shots at most. Some of them ate and some of them didn't, but that's haow it goes. Most of the fish are averaging 35lbs but we have boated several fish close to seventy pounds. I'm doing my best to release as many of these big fish as possible cause they are all bulging with eggs right now. The Broad River is a major spawning area for Cobia and we need to let'em do the deed if you get my drift. Besides, I think the little ones eat better anyway. Here's a shot of about a 60lber that fell for the eel but will live to see another day.
We have had some more action on the Redfish front with some fish moving into the docks and shell banks pretty good. I think it will only get better as the water warms up and the bait gets thicker.
I'm thinking the Cobia might stick around a little longer than normal this year do to the delay in their arrival this spring but hopefully the Tarpon will be on time. Wouldn't it be great to sight fish for Cobia and Tarpon all in the same day?
