Beaufort and Hilton Head Inshore Report

Report Date: April 15, 2009

A brief update on the inshore fishing. The water temps have begun to rise in the river and on the flats and the fish are definately responding to it. We have been doing really well with the Reds on the flats both on the low tide and on the high. If i'm fishig the grass, live bait has been the ticket but the gulps are still doing the trick as well. Grass edges and shell rakes have been working well, it just takes a little patience. Most of the fish have been in the 5-10lb range and a couple of flats are holding schools of larger fish up to 13lbs!
On the low tide we are still finding good schools of Reds on the flats and the best action has still come from "dead sticking" gulp baits on the bottom. The fish are still moving a little slow but as the water temps continue to rise, the bite should continue to get better.

The first Cobia of the year was cought at the bridge on the 9th so they are definately on their way in. We'll give it another week or two and go full bore on them....I do love this time of year. The weather can't be beat and the fishing always follows suit. let's go fishing...
