Still More Reds and Cobia
Report Date: June 6, 2005
Greetings folks! We have had an interesting last few days down here to say the least. Between dodging thunderstorms and getting hit by thunderstorms, the fishing has been pretty good.
We started the week off with some good early morning low tides and decided to chase some reds and give the cobia a break for a change. We headed to some low-water flats that I have been wading for the past couple of weeks and found some nice schools of fish in the 8-12lb range.
Here is Mr. Parker with a nice 11lb red that fell victim to the old Norton sand eel. Danny and I gave chase to these guys as his "trooper" of a girlfriend hung tight in the pouring rain without as much as a wimper! Good catch Danny!
We also took advantage of some of the first good late afternoon tailing tides and stalked some Reds on foot in the grass.
This guy found his way to about three feet from my big toe before bookin' out! We really got into some good numbers of fish in the grass and the were eating the Gulp grab and Gold spoon like they were going out of style.
A fishing report in June wouldn't be complete without a little bit on the Cobia. We landed a few short fish on the bottom this week and hung into two really nice fish on the surface today. This one inparticular would've gone over sixty so I decided she was best photographed from in the water. The cobia seem to still be in good numbers and I did see a few Poons today with my own eyes. Guess it's time to catch some Tarpon.
