Species AvailabilityWhile Redfish are available year 'round, fall and winter offer the best opportunities to sight cast to some of South Carolina's largest schools. Stalking and casting to single tailing Redfish in the marsh grass or inducing strikes from Redfish in a large school on a shallow flat will both produce memories not too soon forgotten. Redfish provide great opportunities for both fly rodders and spin fishers alike. Late summer and fall offer opportunities to sight cast to tailing Redfish on the short grass at, either by boat, or by wading the flats. With the warming water of spring, we welcome the arrival of Cobia. These fish are found on the near shore beaches, sandbars, bridges and in the rivers. They range in size from 10 to 80 pounds and offer excellent sight casting opportunities with both fly and bait. During the summer months we see the arrival of a multitude of migratory fish. Most importantly Tarpon, Jack Crevalle and large sharks. The Tarpon fishery in the area is generally untouched and offers a chance at fish in the 150+ range. Consistent action with sharks will provide plenty of rod bending action.
